Frequently Asked Questions
Here we try to answer the most frequently asked questions
Question
I am selling a boat stored in the yard or a mooring in the Club patch. What should I do?
Answer
Contact the Club Secretary to inform them. They keep a record and sometimes a waiting list is in operation.
Question
Can I keep my boat in the yard?.
Answer
If you are a Sailing Member of The Club you may apply to the Club Secretary to store your boat/trailer in the yard providing that it is not more than 8.5 meters in length. The Club has space for about 30 dinghies, boats and, trailers in total. When full the Club Secretary operates a waiting list.
Question
If I buy a boat/trailer that is already in the yard can I continue to keep it there?
Answer
Possibly. Firstly you MUST be a sailing member of The Club. It will also depend on whether or not there is a waiting list. Be sure to contact the Club Secretary to check if you can.
Question
Is there a cost to keeping a boat/trailer in the yard?
Answer
Yes. The costs are based on the size. There is an increasing sliding scale based on how long the boat/trailer has been in the yard unused. This is intended to be punitive to get people to remove boats/trailers that are no longer actively used as we want the space for members who are actively sailing boats. When you store a boat/trailer in the yard you agree to these fees.
Question
I would like a mooring for my boat. What do I do?
Answer
The Crown Estates set the rules regarding the laying of moorings and there is a patch allocated for The Club to administer. Of course there is a physical limit with the number of moorings that can fit within the patch. Often there are one or two club members looking to sell a mooring, so in the first instance contant the Club Secretary to see if anything suitable for your boat is available. If not it may be possible if there is space to lay a new mooring (at your expense). The Club Secretary can advise.
Question
What costs are associated with owning a mooring?
Answer
You will have to purchase the mooring with its associated ground tackle and annually a fee is due to the Crown Estates. The Club collects this from all mooring owners and passes it directly on to the Crown Estates. Annual maintenance is also recommended at the discretion of the owner.
