The Piper class were also racing for Neil’s Trophy on Wed 19 Jun 2024, a special annual event in memory of one of the Sailing Club’s very special people, Neil Wilson, a master of many sports and social activities in addition to being a popular past Commodore and Captain of the Piper Association. It was fitting, therefore, that this race served up the closest racing of the season in ideal conditions, and resulted in the tightest of finishes where all the boats crossed the line within ten seconds of each other. The last beat to the end of the race with the yachts crossing within inches of each other resembled a motor cycle display team performing at the Edinburgh Tattoo. Eventually it was the experience of Fergus Campbell, Stuart Brown and Ali Gordon which won the day in the last manoeuvre of the race as they slipped Tom Piper across the finishing line with barely a boat length to spare to take the victory and the prestigious Neil Wilson Trophy deservedly from a determined and equally skilled opposition. Another great course set by the racing officer and an excellent night’s sailing.
