2025 Series 1 Race 2

Wednesday night looked like it was going to be a drifter but after a postponement, which then meant a mass start as time was getting on, a light breeze filled in down the loch, and the boats got under way.

White Sail

A new boat in the class, Duncan Chalmers' UFO27 ""Atia," joined Judicious and Moonlight to contest the Whitesail class. While the faster J30 Judicious soon gained a healthy lead, the close contest was between Atia and the Sonata Moonlight with a small difference in their handicaps. The advantage between them swapped about from leg to leg of the course, until the final beat to the finish. While Moonlight looked to be gaining towards the finish line, Atia managed to make it across the line just as the wind dropped away, leaving Moonlight struggling to complete the course. 1. Judicious 2. Atia 3. Moonlight

Pipers

Five Pipers lined up for the start in a very light and variable breeze. After the first lap Iain Hurrel in Billie Piper and Fergie Campbell in Tom Piper had what looked like a comfortable lead over the other three Pipers. Billie Piper and Tom Piper headed out towards the middle of the loch for the beat up to Ardnadam Point. Sewing that there was little chance of catching the leading boats Andy Love sailing Tamarind for only the second time chose to take a gamble and stay close to the Sandbank shore where there was less breeze but in a more favourable direction. Andy's gamble paid off and by the time Tamarind had made it to the mark at Ardnadam he was close on the heels of Billie Piper. By this time Tom Piper had eaked out a comfortable lead which he held onto until the finish. Down the finial run Tamarind managed to sneak past Billie Piper and at the finial mark had a small lead which he held onto until the finish.

1st Tom Piper, 2nd Tamarind, 3rd Billie Piper, 4th Stay Puff, 5th Talisker.

A smaller fleet this week competed, with Contender, Neil John Wilson, and 2 Albacore’s ,Home Brew, Peter McWhinie and Bill is God, Finn Hurrel and Harris Munns and only 1 Flying Fifteen, Efficacious, Tommy McGeachie.
