2025 Series 3 Race 3

Before launching it looked like race three would be sailed in very light winds. However once launched the wind picked up with unpredictable squalls and wind shifts making racing challenging for all crews.

Pipers

A combination of Race Officer, Bill Aitchison’s decision to choose his trademark “downwind start” for the racecourse, a fluky and, at times, blustery breeze, and latterly, very little wind at all combined to provide the Piper Class with some testing conditions which resulted in significant place changing throughout the race. Initially, however, the Staypuff crew provided some pre-start entertainment for the onlookers by managing to run aground at the head of the Loch, well away from the racecourse, which took most of the evening to resolve and, unfortunately, curtailed their involvement in the action. Both Tom Piper and Billie held leading positions in the tricky conditions during the race itself before Leander, helmed by Alan Waugh, who drew on his long earned experience to excellent effect with the support of Jim Campbell and Tallin Shaw, and after being never far from the front all evening, they hit the front when it mattered most to secure a well-deserved, and popular victory. As skipper Waugh announced on entering the Clubhouse afterwards, “The Boys Are Back In Town”!

1st         Leander – Alan Waugh, Jim Campbell and Tallin Shaw

2nd         Tom Piper – Fergus Campbell, Ali Gordon and Stuart Brown

3rd         Talisker – Jamie Rogers, Neil McLaren and Peter McWhinnie

4th         Billie Pipe – Duncan Munroe, Lorne Campbell and Graeme Murray

5th         Tamarind – Andy Love, David Bonner and James Hegarty

White Sail

With a full crew on board Atia there were expectations of a stellar performance, but after a good start Judicious slowly crept away from the fleet and revelled in the unpredictable conditions, winning by over five minutes by the time the handicaps were applied.

1st         J30 – Judicious – Jim Hoey, Andrew Leech, Ralph Houston and Mandy Finfer

2nd         UFO 27 – Atia – Duncan Chalmers, Ali Marshall, Rececca Marshall and Ruth Lee

3rd         Sonata – Moonlight – Nigel Scriven, Derek Webber

Flying Fifteen

Two Flying Fifteens launched, for race three, but Tommy and Susan McGeachie in Efficacious decided not to race due to the tricky conditions, handing the race to More Mischieff.

1st         More Mischieff – Chris and Marion Bowen
